The Anthem of Suriname

Music for the anthem of Suriname
The Anthem of Suriname (Encyclopedie van Suriname)

On this image you see the music of the national anthem of Suriname together with a stanza in Dutch (top) and a stanza in Sranan Tongo (bottom). This zip file (6kB) contains a little program that you can use to play the music of the anthem of Suriname on a MSDOS-PC. The stanza in Sranan Tongo is used most of the time. It was written by Trefosa which is the pseudonym Henry (Henny) F. de Ziel (1916-1975). This is the English translation of the anthem:

Opo kondreman oen opo
Rise country men, rise

Sranan gron e kari oen
The soil of Suriname is calling you

Wans ope tata komopo
Where ever our ancestors came from

Wi moes seti kondre boen
We should take care of our country

Stre de f'stre wi no sa frede
We are not afraid to fight

Gado de wi fesi man
God is our leader

Heri libi te na dede
Our whole life until our death

Wi sa feti gi Sranan
We will fight for Suriname
