CALL HT97 Exercises

These are the exercises for the course CALL VT97 that will be taught in the Autumn term of 1997 at the department of Linguistics at the University of Uppsala.

Compulsory exercises

These exercises will make you work with an authoring language for developing CALL lessons on WWW and they will present some useful JavaScript code.

  1. Use the software for the course STD VT97 for developing a CALL lesson. Does the software able you to create the lesson in the format that you want? Or do you want the software to contain extra features?

  2. Evaluate these JavaScript examples and create a CALL lesson with JavaScript exercises. Do the JavaScript exercises give you enough exercise formats to work with? Or do you want to use extra JavaScript features?

    Optional exercises

    These exercises will introduce web servers and cgi programming. Very likely you will get in trouble while doing these exercises. In that case consult the teacher.

    1. Install the WebSite 1.1 web server on a pc. The url of the program is http://software.ora.com/download/

    2. Install Perl on the same computer so that the web server can run Perl cgi scripts

    3. Port the Unix Perl script used in the course STD VT97 to the pc. The script can be found in the file /home/staff/web/cgi-bin/call
