TdF Stage 19: July 24, 2010

Stage 19 of the Tour was a 52 km individual time trial from Bordeaux to Pauillac. The stage was won by Fabian Cancellara from Switzerland. Behind him there was an interesting contest for the yellow jersey. Andy Schleck of Switzerland came within two seconds of taking the overall lead but Alberto Contador turned out to be the strongest in the final part of the race, extending his lead in the overall rankings to 39 seconds.

The top ten of the time trial contains many unexpected names because the riders that started later, had to deal with a strong head wind. Therefore, the best of the GC contenders, Denis Menchov, finished only eleventh at almost four minutes while yellow jersey holder Alberto Contador, who won the time trial last year, was 35th at 5:43. This made the stage top ten very difficult to predict. Andreij Obrohta of Slovakia emerged as the stage winner in the game with Olle Olausson (Sweden) and Ac Hollinger (Guam) taking second and third place, respectively. The top three of the overall rankings failed to collect points today so there were no changes there. Rune Førsund (Norway), Saverio Heyer (Italy) and Stefano Heyer (Switzerland) remain on places 1, 2 and 3.

The final stage of this year's Tour will be contested tomorrow.
