TdF Stage 3: July 06, 2010

The 213 km third stage from Wanze (Belgium) to Arenberg (France) was a flat stage but contained some cobble stone roads which worried the riders. These roads indeed caused problems: there were crashes, punctures and the peloton fell apart. Six strong men finished in the first pack and Norway's Thor Hushovd won the stage. Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland was among the six. He regained the yellow jersey.

The top ten of the stage had an unusual mix of sprinters, GC contenders and time trial riders. The stage in the game was won by Sharon Dusyk (Canada). Gerarde Nixon (England) was second and Ivica Anzulovic (Croatia) took third place. In the overall rankings John Pederick of Australia moved up from place 7 to the top position. Ivica Anzulovic and Matthias Kersten (Germany) share second place, three points behind the leader.

Today the riders Frank Schleck (member of 196 game participant teams) and Christian Vande Velde (99) left the race. Vande Velde was injured after a crash in stage 2 and did not start in this stage. Schleck fell twice in stage 2 and again in stage 3 and was take to the hospital (suspected broken collarbone).
