Thomas Storrødvann has won the Internet Tour de France Game 2009. In the final stage he collected enough points to keep the first position in the overall rankings which he claimed Saturday. In his eighth year in the game, he becomes the second Norwegian to win after Rune Førsund in 2007. Mickael Vasquez (France) and Fam Borggreve (The Netherlands) did well in the final stage and moved up to overall places two and three respectively.
As usual, the final stage finishing in Paris resulted in a bunch sprint. However, only one man appeared at the finish photo: UK's Mark Cavendish who won his sixth stage this year, by a distance of about ten metres. Alberto Contador of Spain won his second Tour. The other jerseys went to Thor Hushovd (green), Franco Pellizotti (polkadot) and Andy Schleck (white).
The last stage victory in the game went to former overall leader Bastin Verweij of The Netherlands. This is his third stage victory this year, which makes him the most successful participant in the stages. Fellow countryman Erix Schokker claimed second place while third place was shared by Bevo Gallagher (USA), Debbie Rowling (UK/England) and Tobias van den Broek (The Netherlands).
The end of the Tour 2009 also ends this edition of the game. Thank you all for participating! It is very nice to see participants return year after year. See you all back in 2010!
