TdF Stage 20: July 25, 2009

A penultimal stage of the Tour de France finishing at the Mount Ventoux, how unusual. This time 16 cyclists escaped and built a lead of over 10 minutes. But they were all expected to be caught in the final feared climb to the mountain top. However, behind them there was a team race, with Andy Schleck helping his brother Frank and Contador helping Armstrong. Since the top riders did not compete at top speed, two of the escaped riders managed to stay ahead. Juan-Manuel Garate of Spain won the stage. Alberto Contador successfully defended the yellow jersey.

In the game, it was the team of Dave Keeler (USA) that took the stage victory with 66 points. Zvelkejmace Cezvincovhaj (Czech Republic) was second while Piotr Kurczak (Poland) shared third place with Tore Högman (Sweden). In the overall rankings, we have the expected rise of Thomas Storrødvann of Norway to the top position. He has a large lead of 12 points on the numbers two and is very much the favorite to win the game. The joint numbers two Baldina Hill (Israel), Bas Denters (The Netherlands) and Marc Van den Bossche (Belgium) have to hope that something unusual in the final stage swings the rankings in their favor.
