TdF Stage 19: July 24, 2009

In the 178 km nineteenth stage, 19 riders escaped early in the race. However, they did not manage to stay ahead. We had the sixth bunch sprint of the race and the fifth stage win for UK's Mark Cavendish. Alberto Contador kept the yellow jersey.

This was another chance for the sprinter teams to go for a stage win in the game. Today Gary Timberlake (Canada) collected the largest number of points: 69. That was six points more than Cameron Henderson (Australia) and Rocky W. Meadows (USA), who shared second place. This is the second edition in a row that Timberlake manages to win a stage. Bas Denters of The Netherlands lost the first place in the overall rankings yesterday but he quickly turned back to the top position after today's stage. Mickael Vasquez (France) reclaimed second place while Thomas Storrødvann (Norway) is the new name on third place.

Tomorrow is the long awaited stage with the finish on the Mount Ventoux which will decide the result of this year's race. In France, Alberto Contador is the favorite for the race victory. The most likely partcipant to win the game right now is overall number three, Thomas Storrødvann. But the race is not over yet...
