The fifteenth stage of 207 km to St. Bernard in Switzerland contained only the second summit finish so far this year. Finally the battle between the main contenders for the yellow jersey could start. Alberto Contador of Spain proved to be the strongest. He won the stage and took the yellow jersey. Andy Schleck was second and took the white jersey for the best young rider.
The stage in the game was won by Jose Aarts (The Netherlands) with 85 points, the highest stage score of this year. Tore Högman (Sweden) was second and third place was shared by Milena Marani (Italy) and Tatyana Molloy (Ireland). In the overall rankings, Rune Førsund of Norway reclaimed the top position. Bastin Verweij and Martin Hoffellner drop one position, to places two and three, respectively.
Today, Tom Boonen did not start because he was ill. 327 game participants had him as a rider in their teams.
