Stage 9 was similar to stage 8: 160 km with two big mountains but with the final summit too far away from the finish to allow for attacks from the main riders. Two men remained from an early larger break and they managed to hold on to the lead. At the line, France's Perrick Fedrigo beat Franco Pellizotti of Italy. Rinaldo Nocentini kept the yellow jersey.
Today's stage winner was Erik Huygen (The Netherlands). He collected six more points than Hernando Uribe (Colombia) and seven more than Gary Timberlake (Canada) and Martin Hoffellner (Austria). There were no changes at the top of the overall rankings. Rune Førsund kept the overall lead ahead of Martin Hoffellner and Bas Denters.
In this stage the race lost one cyclist. Danilo Napolitano arrived too late. He was a member of 44 game participant teams.
Tomorrow, Monday 13 July, is a rest day in the Tour.
