The 176 km of the eighth stage contained three big climbs but the last summit was more than 40 km before the finish, too far for any of the big gc contenders to plan an attack. Four riders escaped early in the race and held on to the lead. Luis Sanchez of Spain was the fastest of the four. Rinaldo Nocentini (Italy) kept the yellow jersey.
This was another difficult top ten to predict. Only 105 of the 447 game participants managed to obtain points today. Michael Grimaldi (USA) won the stage, ahead of Ras Zbych (Czech Republic) and Christian S. Wolf (USA). Rune Førsund kept the overall lead just like Martin Hoffellner held on to second place. Bas Denters (The Netherlands) moved up to third place.
Four more riders left the race today. The most important was former Tour winner Oscar Pereiro (member of 49 game participant teams).
