In the fifth stage (196 km to Perpignan), we saw the first successful break of the race. Six riders escaped from the peloton and two of them managed to stay ahead until the finish. Thomas Voeckler of France won the stage. Fabian Cacellara held on to the yellow jersey.
This stage top 10 was easier to predict because the popular sprinters occupied positions 3 to 10. The stage in the game was won by Bastin Verweij of The Netherlands. This is his second stage victory, earlier he won a stage in 2006. Rune Førsund (Norway) was second and Martin Hoffellner (Austria) claimed third place. In the overall rankings we find the same top 3. Norway's Rune Førsund leads the group ahead of Bastin Verweij and Martin Hoffellner. Førsund is not a new face on top of the leaderboard: he won the game in 2007.
