The flag of Suriname consists of five colored bands with a five-point star in the middle band. From the top to the bottom the colors of the bands are green (2 measures wide), white (1), red (4), white (1) and green (2). The star in the middle of the red band is yellow. The correct way to position the flag is with a single point up and two points of the star down.
The red band symbolizes progress and the fight for a better life. The white band stands for freedom and justice. The green band symbolizes the fertility of the Surinamese soil and the yellow star the promising future of Suriname.
